We went to Fujiyama on New Years eve. So we expected a crowd. Our reservations were at 8pm , we were not seated until 9pm. We we not out onto almost 11. Not a bad place for being in Pottstown. OK probably the best in Pottstown.

I agree with most of the others here, the place is okay. I prefer the place in Royersford better.

My wife and I have eaten at Fujiyama three times and each time the food was very good. My wife normally orders a traditional Japanese dinner and I prefer the sushi. The food is fresh and I feel that you get a nice size portion. My only complaints are 1) the service is extremely slow and 2) I was surprised when we were charged for each soda. Overall, we have enjoyed the food and hopefully they will work on the service.

This place is awesome. The owners are very friendly and are always working. I've never had a problem with the food that was worth complaining about. I've always done the hibachi... You get tons of food for the money and ALWAYS leave full and with a take home box. Also, their Kevin roll is the best. Definitely recommend a few things: become their VIP for a discount, do their hibachi, and try their Kevin roll. Won't be disappointed.

Great hibachi experience. The food was good and reasonably priced. Also live music and nice deck and view upstairs

Unimpressed! First ordered drinks. Very small, and didn't have makers mark (ran out) so I ordered a margarita and told the owner how to make it, terrible!!! I think he forgot to put the tequila in it, so I ordered a shot... Not much improvement to whatever he made. Finally got my food, but never got the soup or salad prior, since the food came out first you'd think it would be hot, right??? No! Cold food! Although it taste ok, it was a sloppy mess of food all slopped together and juices of everything mixing together. Didn't care for all flavored to marry. Fist time there and I guess it will be our last. Sad! I wish it would have been amazing! I thought it would.

The Kevin Roll, a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy white tuna, is A-OK. Everything about Fujiyama, from the service to the masago to the salmon roll to the sashimi to the tempura ice cream, is A-OK.

My wife and I had originally tried Fujiyama right after they opened for business. We literally live within walking distance, so we were very excited about having a nice Japanese restaurant so close by. But had I reviewed back then, I would have given them maybe 2 stars - food & service were very mediocre at best. Opening jitters, maybe? But after a couple years now of hearing others saying how great it was, we decided to give them another shot. SO glad we did! The food is excellent and the prices VERY fair for what you get. The staff is very friendly (though not always very easy to understand :-) ) and the service has been great. They've also added an open deck in the back that gives you about a 20 mile view of the surrounding area, which we have taken advantage of a couple times now. Beautiful at sunset! My only minor critique of the place is the menu - being a totally Japanese/Asian menu, there are many items which are more than likely very new and unfamiliar to probably most people. With that in mind, I think the menu could use a bit more detail in terms of the descriptions of the entrees. Otherwise, fantastic place. We will be back many more times!

Love the sashimi and the hibachi veg. Great live music upstairs. pottstownprovisions.com/…

This place can be summed up in two words: bland and boring. The steak was ordered medium and we got it as over well done. The cook was boring to watch and the rice and noodles were lacking in flavor. Never coming back.

Food is wonderful. The staff is friendly and the historical building is beautiful. Only complaint is it takes a long time to get your food. Don't go if you are in a hurry.

My wife and I went here for lunch this week about noontime. The place was totally empty when we arrived, so when we ordered sushi for lunch, our rolls were done in record time. The volcano roll and spicy tuna roll were standouts, very delicious and plentiful. Appetizers are obviously frozen (shumai and gyoza) but tasty nonetheless. We will be back!

It's definitely surprising that in the outskirts of the already bucolic 'burb of Pottstown, PA there is a sushi joint. Fujiyama is quaint - its building is reminiscent of an old farmhouse-cum-eating establishment. It's apparently the happenin' place in town for birthday parties - according to their menu, they give you free cake...according to the front wall, your picture gets posted in remembrance of your epic day along with all of the other cheerful Pottstown folk. The sushi was expected. No surprises in either direction. The Kevin roll was huge...aesthetics swapped for quantity, but satisfying and pretty good. The sashimi/sushi was fresh. The tempura ice cream was embarrassingly delicious...probably because by "tempura," the folks at Fujiyama meant "fried in cake batter." And they have quite the sense of humor...reference le photo.

My fiance and I have been coming here for the last couple of years. Judging by the number of birthday photos on the wall at the time I would say they were fairly new to the area. Their sushi is very good so good in fact we haven't bothered to have any of the cooked items on their menu. The fish is fresh and tastes great. This isn't going to be you're upscale sushi joint and thankfully the prices reflect that. It's good quality sushi at a very good price. The owners and staff are great, we try to make it during the weekdays because the weekends can get crowded and with less people around the sushi chef will pay extra attention to you. Since we've been regulars for a couple of years they always welcome us with a nice bowl of miso soup on the house!

In 3 weekend visits, the food has been B-. Sushi could have been fresher on a Saturday night. Service was slow due to crowd, but very attentive. Serves alcohol which makes this a better social joint than meal only establishment. We like going here to hang out a bit.

Don't be so easily impressed. Fujiyama is probably one of the better sushi houses in the area. But really, that's not saying too much. I won't go into a full menu breakdown, but I've been primarily disappointed by the lack of freshness. Some of the appetizers definitely taste frozen or packaged. The fish itself has been okay, but I think the quality is far less than what I might find at an average sushi house in center city Philly. Fujiyama also suffers from a bloated menu. Almost every restaurant that has a menu with 50+ choices could never maintain quality and freshness. It's just not possible in most cases. And that is true here as well. The walk-in and kitchen are only so big. Guaranteed there are frozen items here and they are just re-heating them. I think of things like crab wontons and dumplings. If you can't make it fresh, take it off the menu. As for cleanliness, the restaurant could use a good detail cleaning. There is no in between, it's either clean or it's not. Another area that could be improved is creativity. Again, with so many items on the menu, everything tastes similar. In a pinch I might go here, but I'd probably just do without. We've been here a number of times and the food and service ranged from good to just OK. The owners are nice folks and the dining room and restrooms are clean. (They didn't have any funny green plants like the one shown in the pic below.)

Sadly, they haven't lived up to my initial expectations. The hibachi is fine, but the sushi is always a bit disappointing.

This is our go-to restaurant in Pottstown. We frequent this place at least once a month. The staff is warm, inviting and always so friendly. We have not tried the hibachi portion of the restaurant because we crave their sushi. We never leave this place without having their fuji volcano- this is an 8-piece spicy crabmeat roll with a nice salad tossed with tuna piece; and their half-way house roll. These are two must haves when you visit this place. Pricing is very good for the quantity you receive. We're "VIP" members, for a one time $5 fee, you get perks of a certain percentage off, free ice cream on your birthday and once you spend a certain amount, you get a gift certificate back - check back of menu for details. Must try if you live in Pottstown!

A pleasant surprise awaited us at Fujiyama. We haven't visited this location since it was the old Halfway House, many years ago. Our party of 8 consisted of Japanese-food veterans and new soon-to-be devotees. We sat at the hibachi grill and we not disappointed with the experience, from the soup and salad starters to the variety of tasty entrees our talented chef deftly prepared for our ravenous party. We tried a number of the hibachi entrees from seafood to chicken to steak and and we were pleased with the overall quality and taste of the food. The hostess and wait staff were genial and efficient. The saki was good and the wines were acceptable. We had a great time and we recommend this dining oasis in a region overloaded with tacky sports bars, same-old franchises, and pizzerias. Go to Fujiyama for a great time and wonderful food.

A long time fan of the hibachi steak & sushi establishment, I was not disappointed at this offering. I tested the waters with the steak and scallops and it was cooked to perfection. The showmanship of the hibachi chef was not as good as a Benihanna, but he was personable. I look forward to sampling thier sushi menu next time I visit.

I was visiting and my friend took me here. I thought it was good. I have high standards from being from the bay area but this was pretty good. The workers had a great attitude and the guy who did our hibachi was a fun and great character. I just wished they had a better selection of sushi rolls.

Fun environment with good food and a very good staff. Perfect for a big group or special event. The take out is nice too.

Decent, the sushi is so-so, nothing special or different. I wish they had a better selection of rolls. Hibachi is good, nice portions, not overly salted and the veggies are usually still crisp.

Not a lot of business during the week for hibachi but we were pleasanty surprised. Great secret and definitely will go back! Food tasted great, ample portions. Definitely recommend.

The ingredients were fresh, even as take-out. A little expensive, but it is one of the few sushi options in the area.

We went to Fujiyama last night for the first time. We had a wonderful dinner and the prices were reasonable. The service was a little slow but it allowed time to relax - something you don't often get to do in "American" restaurants. The hibachi chefs were entertaining. We also had a sushi appetizer and it was AMAZING! I will be going back to try more off their sushi menu. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi. The shrimp was wonderful but my chicken was a little dry. My husbands steak was very moist and tender. Next time I will choose the steak. Overall we had a great experience and plan to go back!
